Should I Buy Private Dental Insurance?

I bet when you were little your parents made sure you went to the dentist for check-ups and cleanings. I know I did, and that training by my parents is why I continue with the dentist on a regular basis as an adult. I make sure that I have two check-ups and two cleanings per year. Why do I do that? Because I have dental insurance and my plan covers two check-ups and two cleanings per year. You need to take advantage of what they offer.

When I worked I had medical and dental insurance through my company. Once I left to retire at 53 years of age, I still needed insurance. That led me to private medical and private dental insurance. I looked around and searched out different companies that sell private dental insurance. I wound up buying the medical and dental private insurance from the same company.

You have to do your homework when it comes to private dental insurance. There are waiting periods and deductibles and other information. Make sure you read, ask questions and thoroughly understand all aspects. If you have to keep asking questions, do so. It is your hard earned money and you need to make sure you understand the entire policy and what you are entitled to.

The company I have is not the best, but it isn’t the worst either. The check-ups and cleanings are reasonable. Be sure that if you are to get two cleaning per year, that is all you get. Also, another thing to remember is that you need to go to a dentist that is a providing member of the network. If you go to an outside dentist, your reimbursement money will be less.

Make sure you pay your private dental insurance bills on time. Even better is to have them automatically paid by bank draft. Keep accurate records of what you paid and what your private insurance paid. If you have questions as to why they paid such a low amount, ask them. They don’t often make a mistake, but you still should feel free to question their decisions.

If you currently use a private medical insurance company, ask about their private dental insurance. Maybe buying both from the same company will save you even more money. It is worth asking about. You need to make your money work for you and that includes dental insurance.
